TOPIC: "Belonging: A Critical Variable in Creating More Diverse, Equitable and Just Workplaces"

“Diversity is a fact. Inclusion is a behavior. But belonging is the emotional outcome people want in their organizations.”*

As we enter the third year of the pandemic and prepare to mark the second anniversary of the murder of George Floyd, organizations across the country continue to reckon with historical landscapes built on structural racism, sexism and other forms of exclusion at the core of our communities—and our workplaces.

Please join us in framing belonging as a critical variable in the DEI equation. Employing a nature-oriented framework to demonstrate the weathering forces of structural racism, this workshop will explore the deep-rooted counterforce of belonging, which Jane’s Way defines as the lived experience of feeling seen, respected, and valued for exactly who you are.

Unlike inclusion, which leaves intact a dominant center inviting “others” into that “in group,” belonging celebrates the uniqueness and dignity of community members in the fullness of their identities, with no hierarchy. Please plan to leave this engagement with: 1) a deep rationale for the role of belonging in your DEI(B) efforts; 2) a set of tools to activate authentic cultures of greater diversity, equity and belonging that allows full human– and organizational– potential to be released; and 3) an uplifting framework that situates belonging in the larger context of our global reckoning, as a key, grounding element for the more equitable and just future we are collectively bringing into being.
