Subject:  The Massachusetts Act to Establish Pay Equity:  Six Months Out.  Are you ready? 

Organizations around the state and country are grappling with how to comply not only with the Amended Massachusetts Equal Pay Act, but with the patchwork of equal pay laws enacted in states and municipalities around the country.  Jackson Lewis Principal Samia Kirmani will present on employer obligations with respect to equal pay and salary history inquiries and, while emphasizing practical strategies for Human Resource professionals and employers generally, will discuss:

  An overview of patchwork of multi-state equal pay laws;

  • Are pay history inquiries . . . history?
  • Requirements of the Massachusetts Act to Establish Pay Equity, including the safe harbor; and
  • Pay audits.



Our Speaker: Samia M. Kirmani,

Samia M. Kirmani is a Principal in the Boston, Massachusetts, office of Jackson Lewis P.C. and co-leader of the Workplace Training Practice Group.  She concentrates her practice in employment counseling, training, policy development, and litigation on behalf of management.

Ms. Kirmani provides practical legal advice to clients on various employment law issues, including discrimination, pay equity, health and leave management, reductions in force, retaliation and whistleblower matters, individual separations, and employee relations issues. Ms. Kirmani also assists clients with policy creation, revision and implementation and routinely conducts management and employee trainings on topics in employment law, including sexual harassment prevention and best management practices. Ms. Kirmani also advises clients with respect to drafting and implementing national arbitration agreements.

Ms. Kirmani defends employers in employment-related litigation and administrative proceedings at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination. Ms. Kirmani is a frequent speaker and addresses Legal and Human Resources audiences on current and various workplace law topics, such as paid sick leave, arbitration agreements and class action waivers, pay equity, and employment discrimination.

Prior to joining Jackson Lewis, Ms. Kirmani served as in-house counsel at a technology company, focusing on employment law (including employee relations, discrimination, employment disputes and reduction in force issues) and dispute management. While attending law school, she was a Solicitations Editor for the Boston College International and Comparative Law Review.
