TOPIC: “Medical Marijuana in the Workplace: Navigating Potential Potholes”

Since Massachusetts legalized medical marijuana in 2012, over 10,000 patients have obtained medical marijuana cards, and New Hampshire has just begun to issue them this year.  From drug testing to disability accommodations to workplace safety, medical marijuana in the workplace raises a host of issues and concerns for employers.  This presentation will overview how medical marijuana laws impact the employer-employee relationship, with an eye towards developing practical solutions to common pitfalls for employers.

Our Speaker: Tobias W. Crawford

Toby focuses his practice on higher education law, employment law, and complex litigation. He represents clients before trial courts, appellate courts, and administrative agencies. His litigation experience ranges from employment discrimination and executive compensation lawsuits to shareholder disputes, wage and hour class actions, and civil rights claims. Toby defends colleges and universities in faculty disputes, student disciplinary matters, and other matters. He also assists these institutions in developing policies that comply with Title IX, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, the Massachusetts Fair Educational Practices Law, and other federal and state laws.

Toby counsels businesses and nonprofits on an array of employment issues, including medical leaves, disability accommodations, employment agreements, and wage and hour requirements. He reviews personnel policies, troubleshoots employee issues, and assists employers in complying with new workplace laws. He regularly provides legal advice on federal and state employment laws, such as the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, Title VII, and Chapter 151B.
